New Revised Demand-Responsive Transport Service, day and night, for the villages south of Ipswich and on the Shotley Peninsular
People living in the villages south of Ipswich now have access to a newly revised Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) servicewhich began operating Monday 8 August 2011.
‘Suffolk Links Buzabout’ is a new service sponsored by Suffolk County Council and operated by Suffolk ACRE. A successor to the previous ‘Buzabout’ operation, people can use the minibus service, which is fully accessible to disabled passengers, between 7am and 7pm from Monday to Saturday.
In broad terms Suffolk Links Buzabout will serve the area south of Ipswich and east of the A12 towards the coast. Specific villages include Belstead, Bentley, Brantham, Capel St. Mary, Cattawade, Chelmondiston, Copdock and Washbrook, East Bergholt, Freston, Great Wenham, Harkstead, Holbrook, Holton St. Mary, Pinewood, Shotley, Stratford St. Mary, Stutton, Tattingstone and Woolverstone. Buzabout will also take customers to Ipswich Rail Station, Copdock park and ride, Manningtree town and railway station.
In addition to the daytime service, Suffolk ACRE began operating a separate service on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7pm until midnight on Tuesday 9 August. This serves the same villages mentioned above and also will serve Cardinal Park and the Old Cattle Market Bus Station in Ipswich. This is a separate service that is mainly funded from fare revenue and is supported by many local parish councils.
Fares are similar to standard bus fares, and concessionary passes are accepted between 9.30am and 7pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm on Saturdays. Vehicles are fully accessible for those with mobility problems and/or using a wheelchair or scooter. All drivers are trained to the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) – a nationally recognised programme.
Passengers are asked to book a journey at least the day before but no more than 7 days in advance of when they wish to travel. In order to make the service fairly available to all, bookings are taken on a ‘first come first served’ basis. Please do tell your friends about this service in order to continue its availability. Passengers wanting to use ‘Suffolk Links Buzabout’ directly should phone Suffolk ACRE on 0845 458 1920 between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Friday.
In addition, a further service is provided on alternate Mondays into most of the main supermarkets around Ipswich. For further details or to find out more about the service, customers can contact Suffolk County Council’s Passenger Transport team on 0845 606 6171 or log on to

Suffolk Links Buzabout Wherstead Road Extension
From Friday 3 February 2012 residents living on or near to Wherstead Road will be able to use the Buzabout community transport service on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The wheelchair accessible minibus used can pick them up and drop them back at any of the bus-stops along Wherstead Road between Bourne Bridge and the Rapier Street roundabout. It will be able to provide single or return journeys to Cardinal Park, The Old Cattle Market Bus Station, Ipswich waterfront and Ipswich Rail Station where they can have an evening out or catch other public transport services for onward travel.
To use the service, please telephone Buzabout on 0845 458 1920 between 09:00 and 16:00 Wednesday – Friday. Journeys are on a first come first basis and are subject to availability so book early to avoid disappointment. The minibus itself operates between 19:00 and 00:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. It will cost you 2 per single passenger journey – sorry, no concessions available. Buzabout is operated by Suffolk ACRE, and this evening-time service is jointly funded by Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council and a number of Parish Councils on the Shotley Peninsula, and is operating on a trial basis until 30th June 2012.
