Cash on offer for communities as the Olympic countdown continues

October 30th, 2009
As we reach an exciting milestone in the Olympic countdown calendar, the Suffolk Culture and Sport Partnership is announcing a grant scheme to support 2012 Open Weekend events held in the run up to the Olympic and Paralympics in London.

On 31 October 2009, to mark 1000 days until the London Olympics, The Culture and Sport Partnership wants to encourage community groups as well as town and parish councils to apply for a grant of up to £500.  The money should be used towards the cost of holding a local cultural or sporting event during the Open Weekends of July 2010 and 2011.

The scheme can support up to 40 events over the next two years and as Suffolk County Councillor and Project Champion Judy Terry says, "This is a wonderful opportunity for any local clubs, villages, or organisations to get support from the grant scheme to hold an event and share in the countdown celebrations towards the Games.  As the excitement of the Games begins to build, The London 2012 Open Weekend is a great demonstration of how sports and culture can be brought together as one and play a part in helping to build a rich and lasting legacy in Suffolk."
