The Fairshare Trust (FST) is a Big Lottery Fund initiative to ensure that deprived areas receive their 'Fair share' of lottery money. The programme is running until March 2013. The broad aims of Fairshare are to

Fairshare Trust Waveney will invest £850,000 over 6 years into the North Lowestoft community. The area covers the 4 wards of Harbour, Normanston, Oulton Broad and St Margaret's.
A local panel has been operating and has set the Local priorities for the area. To view the latest priorities for the area please click here
Currently the panel has awarded grants to 10 organisations to run projects which meet the needs of the area. These projects include;
- Waveney Community Forum
WCF were successful in applying to the Fair Share Trust to employ a full time community development worker for the 4 wards covered by the Fair Share Trust Waveney. The role involves holding funding surgeries, developing groups in the area, provide information to the community and the local panel, represent FST on local partnerships etc.
This project helps to meet the FST priority 1, of appointing a dedicated community development officer.
- The Yard
The Yard were awarded £89,299 for the delivery of Pride in Our Road project which is about enhancing the built environment of 3 Fair Share Wards, (St Margarets, Normanston, and Harbour) over 3 years. The work will involve 'doing up' the fronts of houses through various tasks including
planting, repairing walls and laying paving. This project will also involving developing community groups to take ownership of the project beyond the life of the FST funding. The groups will be able to use the support of the Yards base where growing tunnels are being developed.
This project helps to meet part of the FST Priority 2, local priority of FST/AP23, improving the local environment and liveability.
- Lowestoft Volunteer Bureau
Lvbx were successful in being awarded a 1 year grant to pay for a project to develop the volunteer base in the FST area. This involves employing a volunteer coordinator who will recruit and train the volunteers in the FST area, especially linking in with the work of the Yard and those volunteers developed through the WCF CDO.
This project helps to meet part of the FST Priority 2, local priority of FST/AP14, increase and develop the volunteer involvement.
- DIAL
DIAL have been successful in applying for a volunteer coordinator to work with the volunteer advisors at the centre, who offer advice to all people with disabilities and their carers over various issues including benefit advice. This post is match funded for 2 years with the department of health funding which is already secured.
This project helps to meet part of the FST Priority 2, local priority of FST/AP14, increase and develop the volunteer involvement.
- Suffolk Constabulary
Suffolk Constabulary applied to the Fair Share Trust in Waveney to employ a Police Community Support Officer to be dedicated to the wards of Normanston, St Margarets and Oulton Broad. This officer will work in partnership with 2 other PCSO's employed by Lowestoft Together, and are additional to the statutory number of PCSO's funded by the Home Office in the area. The PCSO will be based within the Northern Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT)
The FST specific PCSO will be employed to provide visible, reassuring foot patrols, dealing with low level crime, anti social behaviour, environmental problems, road safety and other community issues. They will liaise with community groups and other agencies and assist the public by directing them to local services and support networks.

Signpost Gunton
Signpost Gunton in Partnership with Roman Hill applied to the Fair Share Trust Waveney to undertake the DreamworX Project. The project is a street based youth project working with 8-13 year olds throughout the Fair Share area. The DreamworX project is targeted at young people who do not normally use traditional youth clubs or other existing provision because of age or other factors.
They intend to employ a full time project co-ordinator to work along side 2 part time youth workers who will concentrate their efforts on engagement with young people on the streets as well as around schools and other daytime projects, within weekend activities, by referral.
Once engaged, the young people will be signposted to, and supported into, activities and volunteering opportunities developed by the project and by partners. The young people will be encouraged to 'Dream' about their future and take positive steps towards achieving their goals.
- Lowestoft Youth Action (LYA)
LYA is an independent group of 14 – 24 year olds, whose aim is to seek the views of young people and present them through a quarterly magazine, a web site, and articles in the Lowestoft Journal. The magazine will provide a community link for young people to activities in the four wards and will actively encourage participation and views on a range of topics including environmental awareness, community safety, health, education, leisure and diversity. It will also provide a communication link with all other FST funded projects and enable the young people in the area to find out more about Fair Share in their community.
- SHARE
The Share Development Officer will be responsible for embedding the ethos of parental involvement within the FST wards schools and wider community. The main objectives of the role will be to:
- Improve understanding of the importance of parental involvement in the lives of children and young people.
- Increase the levels of parental participation in a variety of activities which take place in a range of settings, including children’s centres, schools and community spaces.
- Develop communication networks between educational settings and the wider community to enhance engagement e.g. schools getting involved in community projects.
- Promote sharing of skills within the community and providing opportunities for development of new skills and gaining qualifications.
- SAVO
SAVO applied to the Fair Share Trust Waveney to undertake the Training, Support and Capacity Building project. The project will initially identify the exact training needs of groups within the Fair Share Trust area over a four week period. In the second phase taster sessions on topics such as business planning, constitutions, child protection and health and safety will be held as well as specialist training courses. These courses are specific to the running of organisations, their staff and trustees and could include accredited courses like health and safety, child protection and first aid. Twenty groups will also be supported to work towards and achieve level 1 or 2 PQASSO.
The aim of the project is to enhance volunteer participation and skills by providing specific training, guidance, advice and support. Building the knowledge and skills of trustees, staff and volunteers will enable the organisations to develop and have long term sustainability.
- North Lowestoft Mow & Grow
The project aims to promote and provide a garden maintenance service to increase safety and enjoyment in and around gardens and prolong independent living for those residents who are isolated (or at risk of becoming isolated), on low incomes and vulnerable because of their age, disability or ill health. Volunteers will be used to carry out the work on the gardens and will have the opportunity to complete accredited training offered by Mow & Grow helping them move towards employment.
Some (10 - 20%) commercial work will be undertaken to enable the project to become sustainable in the long term with the income used for the benefit of the FST area.
